I recently sent the following letter to both the Trib and the Sun-Times:
When readers read and hear, from almost every media outlet nowadays, that Howard Dean’s campaign is down for the count, it really begs the question: how and why is it so? Is it truly due to the reasons you hear about in newspapers and TV? The now-infamous ’scream’ was in reality a non-story, a out-of-context sound byte captured from Dean doing an amazing job revving up his troops for the job ahead. A lot of Dean’s so-called “troublesome qualities” become ho-hum once the full story is known. The truth is that should Dean win, his election will mark a power shift that could be alarming to those who well enjoy their power. I speak not of Republicans, but mainstream media. Dean’s election to the Presidency would show that everyday people can combine their individual efforts and power, through weblogs as media and through grassroots Internet efforts, to become an force more unstoppable than this country has known since its birth. And that idea is terrifying to a lot of people and a lot of media in this country. Readers, consider the source of what you hear, and seek out alternative views! It’s our duty to make educated and informed choices when choosing the most powerful leader in the world.
