29 May 05 The Old Gray Mare, She Ain’t What She Used to Be

I was rather amused by MTV. They’re not even trying to hide their corporateness, their sell-out status now.

For the upcoming MTV Music Video Awards, Nine Inch Nails wanted to perform their single “The Hand That Feeds” in front of a backdrop of an unaltered photograph of George W. Bush.

MTV wouldn’t let it go forward, saying:

While we respect Nine Inch Nails’ point of view, we were uncomfortable with their performance being built around a partisan political statement.

Okay. Take a breath and just look at that statement again. MTV said:

We were uncomfortable with their performance being built around a partisan political statement.

I know, we’ve all known that they’re corporate for a while. It’s just a bit amusingly surprising to me that they’re not even trying to hide the gray three-piece suits now.
