eclecticism: “This is a game that was written for 680×0 systems, so it’s outdated by many years, one software transition, and one hardware transition…and it still works.”
Mike Hanscom believes we need not worry about the transition to Intel chips on the Mac.

I had a Del.Icio.Us bookmarklet — Chris Millward’s “extended del.icio.us post” bookmarklet. This bookmarklet grabs the selected text and posts it to the ‘extended’ field of Del.Icio.us. I use Del.Icio.Us less as a bookmarking system and more as a linklogging system, so I usually try to pick a quote from the page or [...]
“You are so young, so much before all beginning, and I would like to beg you, dear Sir, as well as I can, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t [...]
I just found something both simultaneously disappointing and rather useful.
I have an iBook G3, with 640 megabytes of RAM. Since upgrading to Tiger, my system’s display of Flash and QuickTime video seemed to lag.
I installed the DashOnOff
preference pane, which is essentially just a GUI wrapper for these shell commands:
OFF:/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES/usr/bin/killall [...]

Chicago Tribune: Tread carefully with Nike’s new ‘barefoot’ shoe
“[H]eavy use will ‘probably result in any one of a number of injuries long before the small intrinsic muscles of the feet [the stabilizers] get stronger or the lower leg muscles adapt to the stress of the increased range of motion of the unrestrained foot

Wow, the IRS really does think of everything! From IRS Publication 525, Taxable and Nontaxable Income, Other Income:
Bribes. If you receive a bribe, include it in your income.
Found property. If you find and keep property that does not belong to you that has been lost or abandoned (treasure-trove), it is taxable to you at [...]
I ran across a truly amazing column in Time this week, called “Running with the Cario-Bots,” by Walter Kirn. He starts off:
I walk into the gym, and there they are, the cardio-bots, half human, half machine, eyes fixed on banks of televisions and ears glued to iPods as they scale imaginary mountains or jog [...]
With this counter rising, it’s hard not to realize that even this little humble blog has an audience.
Now, it appears from the stats that a very good portion of them stay for less than five seconds - no doubt because at this particular point I’m the eighth result for a Google search for Danica McKellar’s [...]
The other day, I learned that Anna Faris’ character in Lost in Translation was a near-perfect mockery of Cameron Diaz. Once I heard that, it puts Faris’ performance totally in a different light — it’s an uncanny imitation of Diaz. Especially this line:
KELLYSorry, I have the worst B.O. …
Reportedly, in interactions between the [...]
Just in case you were wondering, and I know you weren’t, but hell, might as well put it out into the blogosphere because I’m just a total geek — in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the parking attendants who made off with Cameron’s dad’s Ferrari ended up driving the car for 175.35 miles.
Ferris looks in the [...]
A friend of mine, Eran Zamir, recently sent along some thoughts about the prequel trilogy, and with his permission, I am posting a few excerpts from them here:
The character inconsistencies are pretty sharp. One of my objections to Attack of the Clones was that it had a scene where Yoda fights with a lightsaber. [...]
It looks like D.C. Comics is rebooting their universe again.
Funny, slightly gross bit from Clublife, the blog of a bouncer:
When a high-powered Manhattan club initially opens for business, the displays of lesbianism you’ll encounter as a bouncer are limited, exclusively, to episodes involving completely unattainable female customers. Two or more stunningly beautiful women will begin doing things to each other to such an extent [...]
