God bless the power of the Internet — I finally found some information — actually, an entire webpage devoted to — a musical I was misremembering as Gather ‘Round Children. It actually has the less memorable name of Rocket City (or once The American Dream … Interrupted). It’s a very, very peacenik musical (even for someone who for the most part considers himself a peacenik), almost to an ideological fault, but it’s still worth a real listen — the songs are immensely powerful and touching. I dare you to listen to “If Only You Were Here, Dad” or “When I Touch the Wall” and not be moved. Anyway, check out the (badly-in-need-of-renovation) website ….
