21 Nov 05 RSS Discovery Bookmarklet

I wanted to memorialize a bookmarklet I just ‘created’ by combining two bookmarklets together. One bookmarklet looked for the ‘text/xml’ link in most webpages that indicates the address of that page’s RSS feed, but it would then just display that in a prompt. The other would append the ‘feed://’ protocol prefix to whatever webpage was currently being viewed. Combining the two, however, does a great job of mimicking Safari 2.0’s RSS autodetection, so that my newsreader (or yours) automagically tries to subscribe to any feed currently on the page.
