25 Apr 06 SubEthaEdit: If You Were Running for Congress, It’d Vote For You
Pardon the moment of bribery-based shillery, but if I didn’t like the idea behind this piece of software, I honestly wouldn’t do this. I think.
I follow MacZot, and they run this thing called BlogZot. The idea behind BlogZot is basically a publicity fest — if enough people blog about something, those who blogged about it will get a free license to a piece of software.
So, they’re now running BLOGZOT 2.0 on MacZOT.com, and this time, they’re giving away SubEthaEdit from CodingMonkeys.
It’s a neat idea. Basically, between the two of them, the multiplication of their license fee times the number of free copies means that MacZOT and TheCodingMonkeys will award $105,000 in Mac software through this little promotion.
SubEthaEdit already has some points in the cool column from goinking its name from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I think its former name — Hydra — was much better, but kitschiness won out over weirdness, and the SubEthaEdit name thing has stuck around.
It’s pretty cool that you can collaborate in real-time using it. I don’t think any other software product has done that, really, and so I have to commend them for that — it’s a bit difficult to be unique in this world.
So, let’s see if this earns me a free SubEthaEdit license.
Anyone want me to post a nice write-up on a Ferrari? Or a BMW? Or how shiny gold bullion is? ![]()
